Music is an art form to be shared, and through giving back to others I feel I can make an impact in another person's life. My background in psychology has helped me to relate better with students, and has fostered a desire to share what I have learned. Early in my career, I worked in the helping profession, serving people struggling with mental illness and developmental disabilities. As I progressed in my music career, I gained extensive performance experience in musical environments ranging from jazz, funk, fusion, Afro-Cuban salsa, theater/pit work, and pop to touring with a rock band and jazz quintet, and performing with a radio broadcast big band. These varied experiences have made me a dynamic and effective teacher.
My teaching experience is rich with diversity, instilling an ability to adapt to students needs and the ever-changing world of music. From the classroom to private lessons and clinics, I have worked in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and universities. I have maintained an ongoing private teaching studio for over 15 years, with experience in group classes, individual lessons, camps, clinics, and master classes.
Previously, I was a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, and also a guest lecturer/artist-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Prior to teaching at the college level, I was the musical director for the De Pere High School Show Band, and a regular clinician and adjudicator for the Wisconsin School Music Association.
Jason has studied with Dane Richeson, Joel Spencer, Kelly Sill, Ignacio Berroa, David Garibaldi, and extensively with Ed Soph while pursuing a Masters degree at the University of North Texas. His touring and festival appearances cover many genres of music including work with MCA recording artists the Jay Quinn Band, Josephine Ancelle, the Bryan Hilton Quintet, also known as B and the Buzz, Mojo Perry, Grammy-Award Winner Jeff Eckels, Ken Peplowski, Kim Richmond, Fima Ephron, Kelly Sill, Randy Sabien, Galen Abdul-Zarrahk, Chris Hoffman, Matt Turner, Marlin McKay, Mark Urness, David Liebman, Tom Washatka, Emilie Cardinaux, A.J. Mallory (Rebirth Brass Band), Dave Sullivan, Jon Harmon, Michael Spiro, Donny McCaslin, Gene Bertoncini and many other gifted artists. Kruk is also honored to have made music with Dave Douglas, Scott Colley, Steve Cardenas, and Han Bennick while attending the Banff workshop in Jazz and Creative music
Kruk has appeared on several recordings. His debut, Leaving Saturn, was released May 2009 featuring his original compositions and highly interactive, electric trio. Kruk proudly endorses Evans drumheads and Vulcan drums.
